L.P. Scorecard: CalSTRS 2014

CalSTRS, the second largest public pension fund in the United States, has steadily increased its total commitment to private equity funds since 2014.

That year, CalSTRS committed $2.9 billion across 26 funds. That’s the fifth highest number of funds on its record, marking the first time that the pension committed to more than 20 funds since 2008, when it committed to the same amount.

Despite the large amount of individual commitments, the total amount committed was tenth on its record.

All told, CalSTRS contributed more than $2.6 million of its total commitment to its 2014 investments, as of Sept. 30, 2019.
