Regal Suspends All U.S. Movie Theater Operations due to Pandemic

On October 5, Regal Entertainment Group owner Cineworld Group plc announced the suspension of its U.S. movie theater operations.

Cineworld’s temporary closures involve all 536 Regal theaters across the U.S. The company, the U.K.'s largest cinema operator, will also close all 127 U.K. locations, affecting nearly 45,000 employees altogether.

Cineworld attributed its decisions to the continued closures of Regal theaters, mostly in New York, due to the pandemic. Without the government’s guidance on reopening timing, studios have been reluctant to release new films. 

Meanwhile, Cineworld will continue prioritizing the safety of customers and employees, cash preservation, and cost reduction.
