Independent Bookstores Fight to Beat COVID, Amazon

Independent bookstores are struggling to overcome the impact of two giants: COVID-19 and Amazon. Small, independent bookstores don't have the delivery resources available that Amazon does, or even larger booksellers like Barnes and Noble.

Fewer delivery options and mandated closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic have made it especially hard for independent bookstores to survive. Even those that survived other disasters in the past, like Watchung Books, located in a suburb of New York City, which weathered 9/11, have found the pandemic particularly daunting.
