Thousands of Layoffs Loom for Disney

For months, Disney managed to avoid layoffs despite a raging pandemic. But even the multinational and multimedia behemoth has finally succumbed. In October, Disney announced the layoff of 28,000 people, effective December 31, 2020. On November 25, it announced an additional 4,000 layoffs, effective March 2021.

Two-thirds of the 32,000 people being laid off are part-time employees, according to Variety. As of October 3, 2020, another 37,000 were furloughed.

Union employees may be called back when business picks up. But it is uncertain when Disney's business might return to some semblance of normal.
