Cruise and GM partner with Microsoft to commercialize self-driving vehicles. Along with GM, Honda Motor Co. and institutional investors, Microsoft will invest in Cruise, the San Francisco based driverless car startup. With the nearly $2 billion investment, the startup now has a valuation of $30 billion.
Cruise is now one of the leaders in developing self-driving cars and technology, after the investment. Waymo, which is part of Alphabet, is a competitor. Argo AI, another competitor, is valued at $7.25 billion. Cruise uses Azure, Microsoft's cloud computing platform, for its self-driving vehicles.
