COVID-19: Yelp Data Gives Hope For US Economic Recovery

Yelp data shows that nearly half a million businesses opened in the US during the COVID-19 pandemic. That is down just 14 percent from 2019. Of the more than 487,500 new businesses listed on Yelp, over 15 percent are restaurants and food businesses. On top of that, over 260,000 businesses that temporarily closed due to pandemic restrictions have since reopened. About 85,000 of them were restaurant and food businesses. The data also shows that of the almost half a million new businesses that have opened, 59 percent are within the “professional, local, home and auto” category on Yelp. This is a good sign for the recovery of the U.S. economy.
