Casa Bonita, of ‘South Park’ Fame, Files for Chapter 11

Summit Family Restaurants, the parent company for Casa Bonita, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 6. The Mexican-themed restaurant features a 30-foot waterfall, cliff divers, and stage shows. It also houses a 52,000-square-foot arcade.

But the "South Park" franchise provided the Lakewood, Colorado restaurant with its biggest claim to fame with numerous references. In addition to being mentioned throughout the series, one episode from season seven was titled “Casa Bonita.” The restaurant was featured in a “South Park” video game as well.

Casa Bonita had been closed since March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Venues that serve large crowds have struggled to stay afloat. Casa Bonita is one of many forced into bankruptcy following closures.
