In 2020, South Africa was responsible for 20% of all VC deals in the African continent. In 2021, the country’s prominence in the VC world continues to grow. South African start-ups continue to attract international investments and exits. This gains South Africa’s VC firms' interest beyond Africa, on a worldwide stage. For example, the Cape Town-Stellenbosch corridor alone hosts at least 450 tech firms, together employing more than 40,000 people. This makes its tech ecosystem larger than Nairobi and Lagos combined. It’s clear that South Africa is outperforming its neighbours.
