The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulators voted to revoke China Telecom's license in the US over national security concerns.
As a result, the largest Chinese telecommunications company will discontinue its US services within 60 days.
According to FCC, China Telecom is subject to influence, exploitation, and control by the Chinese government. Furthermore, they claimed that the company was "highly likely to be forced to comply with China's requests without sufficient legal procedures subject to independent judicial oversight."
Therefore, regulators think giving China access to US communications will threaten national security and law enforcement risks. The FCC's initial attempt to revoke China Telecom's authorization began in March.
