According to a recent survey conducted by the Physicians Advocacy Institute (PAI), nearly 7 in 10 physicians in the United States are employed by private equity firms, corporate entities, and hospitals.
In other words, hospitals and other corporate entities have hired nearly 70% of the nation’s doctors.
The survey conducted by PAI revealed approximately 48,000 physicians chose employment with corporate entities, health systems, or hospitals. This occurred between January 1, 2019, and January 1, 2021.
Between 2019 and 2021, physicians employed by private equity firms, and hospitals grew by 12%. In total, hospitals and corporate entities have hired 69% of physicians in the United States.
