On Monday, Facebook faced an outage that lasted for six hours. The blackout disrupted some of its platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.
What caused the outage?
According to Facebook, the outage was due to a network traffic disruption. The company said in a blog that configuration changes on the routers caused issues. This, in turn, disrupted communication between their data centers.
Potentially billions of people around the world use Facebook and its spin-offs. Therefore they were all unable to access their social media platforms.
At the same time, businesses that rely on social media suffered severely. They could not connect with their customers nor post content on Facebook platforms. This resulted in substantial financial losses.
