US President Joe Biden has signed the legislation - The Uyghur Forced Labour Prevention Act -banning imports from China's Xinjiang region over concerns about forced labour. Congress passed the Bill after lawmakers came to an understanding between the House and Senate versions of the Bill a few days ago.
The Act prevents products made in Xinjiang, also known as Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in northwest China. Currently, over 12 million Uyghurs and many other ethnic groups live in the province.
It is one of the world's largest producers of cotton, tomatoes, lavender, and hops. It is also a large producer of oil and polysilicon. Polysilicon is the main ingredient in the production of solar panels.
