Indonesia has eventually lifted the ban on coal exports after 10 days on January 10.
Although the export ban has lifted, the government was still evaluating coal exports two days later.
The decision taken after the government saw improved coal supplies to PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara/State Electricity Company).
Previously, PLN reported a critical coal supply shortage on the New Year Day this year. Due to this, the government banned coal exports amid complaints that miners were not supplying fuel to the company.
The ban initially supposed to last for a month to ensure adequate supplies to local electricity companies.
Major coal importers such as Japan, South Korea and the Philippines have requested Indonesia to lift the ban on coal exports.
