Serbian Media Baron Acquires Southampton FC For $136 Million

Dragan Šolak, the founder of Serbian mass media company United Group, has acquired 80% of stake of Southampton FC last week. The deal closed at $136 million and 20% of remaining shareholding stays with Katharina Liebherr.

Chinese businessman Gao Jisheng acquired 80% of stake back in 2017 for $272 million which resulted in $148.5 million loss for him.

An enterprise value of the club is estimated at $270 million-$340 million including current debts after the deal is closed (FT). In the 2019-20 season, the club's revenue fell from $196.14 million to $171.62 million resulting in $103.52 million pre-tax loss. Club had borrowed $107.33 million debt from MSD Partners earlier.
