Andy Warhol’s Painting of Marilyn Monroe Sold for $195 Million

Andy Warhol’s 1964 ‘Shot Sage Blue Marilyn’ portrait of Marilyn Monroe was sold for record breaking price $195 million. The record shattering auction as held in New York City on May 9 by Christie’s Auction House. It is the highest paid auction for any American artist’s work.

However, It shows the silkscreen image of Monroe in yellow hair, blue eyeshadow and red lips on a rich blue background. Thus, making one of the most exorbitant art piece of 20th century. The painting was the inspiration from famous photographer.

Christie’s wrote that the painting is one of the rarest and most transcendent images in existence. Christie’s and Sotheby’s are planning to sell $2 billion worth of art within next 2 weeks.
