Germany plans to completely stop energy imports from Russia after the latter invaded Ukraine in February this year.
Since the beginning of the conflict, the country has spent about $9.5 billion on Russian energy. Germany paid $6.7 billion for gas, $2.1 billion for oil, $670 million for other petroleum products, and $96 million for coal.
Coal
Before Russia invaded Ukraine, Russian coal accounted for about 50% of consumption in Germany. Russian coal consumption has decreased from 50% to 8% since the beginning of the year.
The country plans to completely stop importing coal from Russia by the end of August. Alternative coal suppliers for Germany are the US, South Africa, Australia, Colombia, Mozambique, and Indonesia.
