Walgreens invests $5.5 billion in services push. Therefore, the pharmacy giant will take majority stakes in two smaller health care providers. This comes as the company wants to expand its focus beyond its drugstores. Due to lifting COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and mass vaccination, their shares increased nearly 7% to $50.44. This came as their fourth-quarter results reportedly beat expectations.
Furthermore, Walgreens said it would make a $5.2 billion investment in VillageMD. Thus, this increases Walgreen's stake in the company to 63%. Walgreens will also invest $330 million in post-acute and home care provider CareCentrix to take a 55% stake.
